Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) is an autonomous agency in India, which started its operation in 1975 as Personnel Selection Services (PSS). In 1984, IBPS became an independent entity at the behest of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and Public Sector Banks. IBPS is envisioned as self-governed academic and research oriented Institute, with a mission of enhancing human-resource development through personnel assessment. In 2011, IBPS announced a Common Written Examination (CWE) for the selection Officers and Clerks in Indian banks. IBPS CWE is now mandatory for anyone who seeks an employment in 20 public sector and Regional Rural banks. IBPS periodically accepts the exam applications from the candidates at their website, and the exams are organized at various locations in the country in online mode. Aspirants have to go through interview process after clearing the online test conduct by the IBPS. On the basis of interview candidates placed in Regional Rural Bank.

IBPS provides its service to all Public Sector Banks, SBI, Associate Banks of SBI, RBI, NABARD, SIDBI, few Co.op.Banks, LIC & Insurance companies which are regular members of the IBPS society. In addition to that Regional Rural Banks, many Public Sector Undertakings of Non-financial sectors, Government Departments, State owned companies and Corporations also avail its services. Some major universities and reputed Management institutes engage IBPS regularly for conduct of their “Admission Tests”.

Recruitments through IBPS

IBPS Recruitment for PSBs follows 2 or 3 tier scheme. While IBPS RRB & SO recruitment are two phase processes, IBPS PO & Clerk consists of three stages. The first phase is Common written examination, followed by Interview and the final placement.

>> CWE PROBATIONARY OFFICER/MT: Recruitment of Probationary Officers or Management Trainees. It is a three tier recruitment process consisting of a Preliminary exam of 100 marks of 60 minutes duration, followed by a main exam for shortlisted candidates, of 200 marks with a duration of 120 minutes followed by an Interview.
>> CWE Clerk: Recruitment in Clerical Cadre. It is a 3 tier process following the same pattern as of PO/MT exam.
>> CWE Specialist Officer: Recruitment of IT, LAW, engineering, marketing and other professionals. It is a two tier recruitment process consisting of an online written exam followed by an interview.
>> CWE RRB Officers and Assistants: Recruitment of Officers & Office assistant to Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) governed by NABARD. It is also a 2 tier recruitment process with a main exam of 200 marks followed by an interview of shortlisted candidates.From RRB IV (2015-16) the interviews are conducted by IBPS itself unlike in the previous drives (I,II and III) where interviews were conducted by participating RRBs as and when vacancies arose.
